Before joining Activate, Jarred built his clinical career at Johns Hopkins, caring for patients in environments where judgment, precision, and accountability were nonnegotiable. His years at the bedside and in the operating room gave him a first-principles understanding of healthcare’s most persistent challenges—and of where technology can meaningfully improve outcomes, clinical workflows, access, and the experience of care.
Driven to address those challenges at greater scale, Jarred expanded his work from surgery into healthcare innovation. He invented a novel joint-replacement system, served as lead inventor on multiple issued and pending patents, and worked with established healthcare companies to translate complex technical concepts into clinically useful products. That experience taught him how much separates an interesting technology from a solution capable of earning trust, achieving adoption, and creating lasting value.
At Activate, Jarred partners with founders addressing important problems across healthcare. His clinical and technical background helps him assess not only whether a technology is compelling, but whether it fits the realities of healthcare delivery, creates meaningful value for its users, and can support a durable business.
Having worked as both the physician expected to rely on new technologies and the innovator attempting to build them, Jarred brings founders a combination of rigor, candor, and empathy. He helps management teams navigate clinical adoption, healthcare economics, product strategy, and consequential decisions without imposing a prefabricated playbook.
Jarred graduated first in his engineering department at Johns Hopkins University, earned his medical degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and completed his orthopaedic surgery training at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. Having spent the better part of two decades at Hopkins, he held a clinical position in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, as well as roles within the Clinical Innovation Program and School of Engineering. His work has been supported by the National Institutes of Health and the Orthopaedic Research Society and includes numerous peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, abstracts, and scientific presentations.
Outside of Activate, Jarred is a licensed private pilot and guitarist who enjoys staying active. He lives in Connecticut with his wife, also a physician, their two children, and their dog. The family spends much of its free time pursuing year-round outdoor adventures in the Adirondacks.
